Job Description

NorthShore University HealthSystem is offering an exciting opportunity for individuals with little to no prior experience to join our team as a Nursing Assistant (CNA Trainee). This hospital-based position provides comprehensive, on-the-job training to prepare you for your Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. You will work alongside experienced healthcare professionals, learning essential patient care skills in a supportive hospital environment. This program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to become a compassionate and competent nursing assistant, making a real difference in the lives of our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all aspects of the CNA training program, including classroom instruction and supervised clinical practice.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Support patient mobility, including turning, repositioning, and transferring patients safely.
- Measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and accurately document observations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding patient status and needs.
- Respond to patient call lights promptly and courteously.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and compassion towards all patients and their families.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (or actively working towards completion).
- Strong desire to learn and commitment to a career in healthcare.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Reliability and strong work ethic.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Compassionate and patient-focused attitude.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology (not required, but beneficial).
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
