Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Formulation Chemist to lead a dynamic team focused on developing next-generation specialty chemical formulations. As a Team Lead, you will drive research and development initiatives from concept to commercialization, ensuring products meet stringent performance, regulatory, and cost targets. This role demands strong technical expertise in chemical formulation, project management skills, and a proven ability to mentor and inspire a team of chemists. You will be responsible for overseeing laboratory activities, designing experimental plans, analyzing data, and presenting findings to cross-functional teams and senior management. A significant performance bonus structure is tied to successful project milestones and product launches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of formulation chemists, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
  • Design, develop, and optimize new chemical formulations for various applications, ensuring superior performance and stability.
  • Conduct rigorous experimental work, including raw material selection, formulation prototyping, and performance testing.
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques to characterize materials and formulations.
  • Troubleshoot formulation challenges and identify root causes for performance issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and product specifications.
  • Ensure all formulation activities comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and regulatory teams.
  • Mentor junior chemists, provide technical guidance, and support their professional development.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and competitive landscapes to drive innovation.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in chemical formulation development within an industrial setting.
  • Proven leadership experience, including direct supervision and project management of scientific teams.
  • Expertise in designing and conducting complex experimental programs (DOE).
  • Deep understanding of rheology, surface chemistry, and material science principles.
  • Proficiency with analytical instrumentation (e.g., FTIR, GC-MS, HPLC, TGA, DSC).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to scientific inquiry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and team leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and bring new products to market.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific formulation types relevant to coatings, adhesives, personal care, or advanced materials.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property processes and patent applications.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and regulatory affairs.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in scale-up and technology transfer from lab to production.
