Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate Lawyer to join our dynamic in-house legal team in Derby. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal advice and support across various corporate functions, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex national and international projects within a leading global engineering firm, contributing directly to our strategic objectives and maintaining our reputation for legal excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, including contracts, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate governance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, ensuring they align with company policies and legal requirements.
- Manage and mitigate legal risks across the organization, developing strategies to ensure compliance with relevant laws and industry regulations.
- Support the company's intellectual property strategy, including advising on trademarks, patents, and licensing agreements.
- Assist in the management of litigation and dispute resolution processes as required.
- Stay abreast of changes in corporate law and regulations, advising the business on potential impacts and necessary adjustments.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across departments, including sales, procurement, finance, and engineering.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of internal legal policies and training programs.
Required Skills
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England & Wales with a current practicing certificate.
- Minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience in corporate law, either in-house or at a reputable law firm.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance principles, contract law, and commercial regulations.
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced corporate environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the aerospace, defence, or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Familiarity with international commercial law and cross-border transactions.
- Experience with intellectual property matters.
- Postgraduate degree in Law or related field.
