Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Chemist with a focus on Soil & Water Remediation to join our dynamic team in Bakersfield, CA. This role is crucial in supporting our environmental consulting projects, particularly those involving the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field investigations, coordinating laboratory analysis, interpreting complex data, and contributing to the development and implementation of effective remediation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive field sampling for soil, groundwater, and surface water, ensuring adherence to strict protocols.
- Perform on-site chemical screening and oversee rigorous sample chain-of-custody procedures.
- Coordinate effectively with analytical laboratories for sample submission, testing, and meticulous data quality assurance/quality control.
- Interpret complex analytical data, accurately identify contaminants of concern, and thoroughly assess potential risk pathways.
- Develop and implement robust soil and groundwater remediation strategies and detailed work plans.
- Prepare clear and concise technical reports, project proposals, and regulatory compliance documents.
- Ensure all project work adheres to federal and California state environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA, DTSC, RWQCB) and AECOM's stringent safety protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, including environmental engineers, geologists, and project managers.
- Operate and maintain specialized field equipment for sampling and monitoring activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry, Geochemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in environmental consulting or a related industry, specifically with soil and water remediation projects.
- Proven proficiency in environmental sampling techniques for various media (soil, water, vapor).
- Strong understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry principles as applied to environmental contaminants.
- Experience with environmental data management and statistical analysis software.
- Familiarity with federal and California state environmental regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing, presentations, and client interaction.
- Ability to work independently in the field and as part of a collaborative team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Professional Geologist (PG) or Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG) in California, HAZWOPER 40-hour certification).
- Experience with GIS software for data visualization and mapping.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing innovative remediation technologies and pilot studies.
- Knowledge of advanced analytical techniques and instrumentation.
