Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Stable Hand to join our team at Cedarhill Farm. This full-time position requires an individual with a true passion for horses and a willingness to work early mornings. As a Stable Hand, you will be crucial to the daily care and well-being of our horses, ensuring the stables are clean, organized, and all animals receive proper attention. This is a hands-on role perfect for someone who enjoys physical work outdoors and has a strong work ethic. While previous professional stable experience is preferred, we are willing to train enthusiastic individuals who demonstrate a strong desire to learn and contribute to a professional equestrian environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily mucking out of stalls and maintain general stable cleanliness.
- Prepare and distribute feed according to specific dietary plans for each horse.
- Turn out and bring in horses from paddocks, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Monitor horse health and report any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes to management.
- Assist with basic grooming, blanketing, and tacking up horses as needed.
- Clean and maintain tack, equipment, and stable tools.
- Ensure pastures and turnout areas are clean and safe.
- Assist with barn maintenance tasks, including sweeping, tidying, and organizing feed rooms and supply areas.
- Participate in the overall upkeep of the farm facilities.
- Operate farm machinery safely (e.g., tractors for manure removal, if experienced).
Required Skills
- Demonstrated passion for horses and animal welfare.
- Ability to work early morning shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform repetitive tasks.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of horse behavior and safety protocols around horses.
- Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a stable or equestrian environment.
- Knowledge of basic horse care, nutrition, and first aid.
- Experience handling various temperaments of horses.
- Valid G-class driver's license and reliable transportation.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
