Job Description

The Richey Suncoast Theatre is seeking a passionate and skilled Community Choir Conductor to lead our evening choir program. This role is perfect for an individual who is enthusiastic about nurturing vocal talent, building community through music, and delivering engaging performances. You will be responsible for rehearsing and preparing our diverse group of choir members for various local performances, fostering a supportive and inspiring environment for singers of all experience levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and conduct engaging evening choir rehearsals, typically 2-3 times per week.
  • Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and inspires choir members, suitable for community performances.
  • Teach vocal techniques, sight-reading, and music theory as needed to improve choir performance.
  • Provide clear and encouraging direction to choir members, fostering a positive and inclusive rehearsal environment.
  • Collaborate with the Theatre management on performance schedules, venues, and logistical requirements.
  • Prepare the choir for various community events, concerts, and theatre productions.
  • Manage and maintain choir music scores and materials.
  • Attend occasional meetings with Theatre staff to coordinate activities and future plans.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in choir conducting or musical direction.
  • Strong understanding of vocal pedagogy and music theory.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in group settings.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse age groups and musical abilities.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting musical scores.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate performers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Experience with community-based arts organizations or non-profit settings.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of musical genres and styles.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (desirable but not mandatory).
