Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Forensic Scientist / Toxicologist to join our dynamic team in Belo Horizonte. This role is pivotal in providing expert analytical services, focusing on the detection and quantification of drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances in biological and non-biological samples for forensic investigations. The successful candidate will perform complex laboratory analyses, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive reports to support criminal and civil justice systems. Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced toxicological analysis on biological and non-biological samples using techniques such as GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and immunoassay.
- Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods and procedures in accordance with accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 17025).
- Operate and maintain complex laboratory instrumentation, troubleshoot issues, and ensure proper calibration.
- Interpret complex analytical data, evaluate results, and provide expert opinions in written reports and potentially in court.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all analytical work, observations, and results.
- Adhere strictly to quality assurance protocols, laboratory safety standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, legal professionals, and other forensic experts.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs and continuous professional development.
- Train and mentor junior scientists and technicians as needed.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Forensic Science, Toxicology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory setting.
- Proficiency with analytical techniques including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and immunoassay.
- Strong understanding of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and metabolism of drugs and toxins.
- Excellent data interpretation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated experience in method development and validation.
- Familiarity with quality control and assurance procedures in an accredited laboratory environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certification in Forensic Toxicology (e.g., DABFT, F-ABFT).
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
- Prior experience providing expert testimony in court.
- Knowledge of Brazilian legal and forensic science standards.
- Fluency in Portuguese is a plus.
