Job Description

Join the dedicated team at the historic Saenger Theatre as a Stagehand Assistant. This vital night-shift role supports all technical aspects of live performances, including setup, operation, and teardown of stage equipment. You will work closely with experienced stagehands and production managers, learning the intricacies of theatrical and concert production in a fast-paced and exciting environment. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about live entertainment, eager to gain hands-on experience, and comfortable with a night work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of theatrical and concert equipment, including set pieces, lighting, sound, and props.
  • Participate in the assembly and dismantling of stage sets, rigging, and other technical elements.
  • Operate various stage equipment under supervision, such as spotlights, soundboards, and fly systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and ensure the cleanliness of stage areas and equipment.
  • Provide support to visiting crews and artists, ensuring their needs are met during productions.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations during all stages of production.
  • Prepare the stage for performances and assist with scene changes during shows.
  • Learn and execute cues for lighting, sound, and stage movement as directed.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to ensure smooth and successful productions.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) safely and repeatedly.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in varying temperature conditions.
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive, 'can-do' attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of tools and mechanical principles.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by performance schedules.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the venue during evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a theatre, concert venue, or event production setting (even volunteer).
  • Knowledge of basic stagecraft, lighting, sound, or rigging principles.
  • Enrollment or completion of a technical theatre program.
  • Certification in rigging, fall protection, or other relevant safety areas.
  • Familiarity with various types of production equipment.
