Job Description

Mayo Clinic is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Clinical Chemist to join our Diagnostic Medical Lab team in Minneapolis, MN. This full-time position involves working various shifts, including evenings and weekends, with an attractive shift differential. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, validation, implementation, and oversight of clinical chemistry assays, ensuring high standards of quality and patient safety. You will play a critical role in troubleshooting analytical issues, interpreting complex lab data, and contributing to the overall excellence of our diagnostic services. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and implement new clinical chemistry assays and methodologies.
  • Perform complex analytical testing and interpret results for diagnostic purposes.
  • Monitor and maintain quality control programs to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Troubleshoot analytical and instrument problems, implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide expert consultation to medical staff regarding test selection and interpretation.
  • Participate in laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Contribute to research projects and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior laboratory staff.
  • Stay current with advancements in clinical chemistry and laboratory technology.

Required Skills

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Board Certification or eligibility for certification in Clinical Chemistry (e.g., American Board of Clinical Chemistry – ABCC).
  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory regulations (CLIA, CAP, etc.).
  • Proficiency in method development, validation, and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume diagnostic laboratory.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Chemistry.
  • Experience with LIS/LIMS systems.
  • Prior experience in an academic medical center or large hospital laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry and other advanced analytical techniques.
