Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Polymer & Plastics Engineering Intern to join our advanced materials team in Swindon. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading global company, working on real-world projects involving the development, characterization, and application of innovative polymer and plastic materials. You will contribute to projects focused on enhancing material performance, sustainability, and manufacturability, supporting our mission to create a cleaner and healthier world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments related to polymer synthesis, processing, and characterization.
  • Conduct literature reviews and gather data on existing polymer technologies and material properties.
  • Prepare samples for testing and operate various laboratory equipment, including rheometers, tensile testers, and thermal analysis instruments.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and scientists to troubleshoot technical challenges and propose solutions.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the materials science department.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental polymer science and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and best practices.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with polymer processing techniques (e.g., extrusion, injection molding).
  • Experience with material characterization techniques (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, mechanical testing).
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable materials and circular economy principles.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical analysis tools for experimental design.
