Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Insurance Verification Technician with a strong pharmacy focus to join our dynamic team in La Jolla, CA. In this high-demand role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely verification of patient insurance benefits for prescription medications, minimizing delays in treatment, and optimizing patient satisfaction. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, a solid understanding of pharmacy operations, and the ability to navigate complex insurance policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for prescription medications prior to dispensing.
- Obtain necessary prior authorizations and resolve any insurance-related denials or rejections.
- Communicate effectively with patients, prescribers, and insurance companies to gather information and resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and insurance information in the system.
- Educate patients on their insurance benefits, co-pays, and financial responsibilities.
- Collaborate with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to ensure seamless patient care.
- Stay informed about changes in insurance plans, policies, and industry regulations.
- Process and resubmit claims as necessary, tracking all verification and authorization attempts.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and company policies regarding patient confidentiality.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year experience in insurance verification or a pharmacy setting.
- Proficiency in navigating various insurance portals and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong understanding of medical and pharmacy terminology, CPT codes, and ICD-10 codes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
- Experience with a major pharmacy management system (e.g., Epic, Cerner, QS/1).
- Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans.
