Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Surgeon to join our esteemed surgical team. This is an excellent opportunity for a visionary surgeon to contribute to a leading teaching hospital environment, delivering advanced patient care, participating in groundbreaking research, and mentoring junior colleagues. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, perform complex surgical procedures, and provide expert clinical advice within their specialism. This role is crucial for maintaining our high standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex surgical procedures within your specialty with exceptional precision and patient care.
- Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans for a diverse range of surgical conditions.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to comprehensive patient management.
- Supervise, mentor, and educate surgical registrars, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
- Actively engage in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental strategy and service development, driving innovation and efficiency.
- Participate in on-call rotas and emergency surgical care as required.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records, adhering to all professional and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a Licence to Practise.
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register for General Surgery or relevant surgical specialty (CCT or equivalent).
- Extensive experience as a Consultant Surgeon in a relevant sub-specialty.
- Demonstrated expertise in complex surgical techniques and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong leadership and management abilities.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and medical education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher surgical degree (e.g., MS, MD, PhD).
- Evidence of active involvement in surgical research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience in a teaching hospital setting.
- Fellowship in a sub-specialty area.
- Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
