Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Geneticist to join our pioneering research team at the University of Bath. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing, executing, and analyzing genetic experiments focused on understanding complex biological systems and disease mechanisms. This position requires a strong background in molecular genetics, bioinformatics, and the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. You will be instrumental in driving forward research projects, publishing findings, and contributing to grant proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement complex genetic experiments, including gene editing (CRISPR-Cas9), genetic mapping, and gene expression analysis.
  • Perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, sequencing library preparation, and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Analyze large genomic and transcriptomic datasets using bioinformatics tools and statistical software.
  • Interpret experimental results, draw conclusions, and contribute to scientific manuscripts and presentations.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, data, and protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, postdocs, and students within the department and external partners.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications and research proposals.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.

Required Skills

  • PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in experimental design and execution of genetic experiments.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, sequencing, Western blotting).
  • Strong understanding of genomic data analysis and bioinformatics tools (e.g., R, Python, Linux command line).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of biological data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral research experience in a relevant area of genetics.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and data processing.
  • Familiarity with various gene editing technologies (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9, TALENs).
  • Track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in grant writing and project management.
