Job Description

We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Museum Curator / Director with a strong focus on International Sponsorship to lead our curatorial and operational efforts. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of museum management, from collection development and exhibition design to strategic planning and community engagement. A key responsibility will be to spearhead initiatives for securing international sponsorships and partnerships, significantly expanding our reach and funding. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for history and culture, exceptional leadership qualities, and proven experience in securing funding and cultivating relationships on an international scale. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the museum's curatorial direction, exhibitions, and educational programs.
  • Lead and manage all museum operations, including staff supervision, budget management, and facility oversight.
  • Design and execute innovative fundraising strategies, with a primary focus on securing international sponsorships and grants.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with international cultural organizations, governmental bodies, and private donors.
  • Oversee the acquisition, preservation, and interpretation of museum collections, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Develop engaging exhibitions and public programs that attract diverse audiences and promote cultural understanding.
  • Represent the museum at local, national, and international events, conferences, and forums.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders, educational institutions, and tourism partners to enhance the museum's profile and impact.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Cultural Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a museum or cultural institution.
  • Demonstrated success in securing significant grants and sponsorships, particularly from international sources.
  • Strong understanding of museum best practices in collections management, conservation, and exhibition development.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, lead teams, and develop strategic partnerships.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages is a strong asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience working with diverse international stakeholders and cultural exchange programs.
  • Track record of successful exhibition curation with an international scope.
  • Familiarity with the history and cultural heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador.
