Job Description
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Weekend Legal Transcriptionist to join our remote team. This part-time position is 100% home-based and requires availability specifically on weekends. As a Legal Transcriptionist, you will be responsible for accurately transcribing legal proceedings, depositions, hearings, and other legal documents. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional listening skills, a strong grasp of legal terminology, and a commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality. This role offers the flexibility of remote work while contributing to critical legal processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe audio recordings of legal proceedings, depositions, and interviews with high accuracy and speed.
- Proofread and edit transcribed documents to ensure grammatical correctness, proper punctuation, and adherence to legal formatting standards.
- Research legal terminology and factual content as needed to ensure precise transcription.
- Manage and prioritize transcription assignments to meet tight deadlines.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security of all legal documents and information.
- Communicate effectively with team leads regarding assignment status and any issues encountered.
- Utilize transcription software and legal databases efficiently.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in legal transcription or a related field (minimum 12 months).
- Exceptional listening skills and a keen ear for detail.
- Proficiency in legal terminology and procedures.
- Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
- High typing speed (minimum 70 WPM) and accuracy.
- Proficiency with transcription software (e.g., Express Scribe, FTR Gold, Sten-Typist).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in legal transcription or a related legal support field.
- Experience with specific legal document types (e.g., appellate briefs, interrogatories).
- Familiarity with various audio formats and their conversion.
- Associate's degree or higher in Paralegal Studies, English, or a related discipline.
