Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Coatings Chemist to join our research and development team in Fort Wayne, IN. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the formulation, development, and testing of new and improved coatings for various applications within the paint and resin industry. This role involves hands-on laboratory work, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to bring innovative products to market. Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and develop new coatings, paints, and resins with desired performance characteristics.
- Conduct extensive laboratory testing and analysis of raw materials and finished products.
- Optimize existing formulations for cost, performance, and regulatory compliance.
- Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and prepare detailed technical reports.
- Collaborate with production, quality control, and sales teams to support product commercialization.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and raw material advancements.
- Ensure all work adheres to safety protocols and quality standards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in coatings, paint, or resin formulation and development.
- Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, rheology, and surface science.
- Proficiency in laboratory testing techniques and analytical instrumentation.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with specific coating technologies (e.g., UV-curable, water-borne, high-solids).
- Familiarity with industry regulations and standards (e.g., VOC, REACH).
- Project management experience in an R&D setting.
