Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mastering Engineer to join our dedicated audio team. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of audio mastering principles, exceptional critical listening skills, and proficiency with industry-standard mastering software and hardware. This role involves working on a diverse range of musical genres, collaborating with artists, producers, and mixing engineers to achieve their artistic vision, and ensuring all audio releases meet Warner Records’ exacting quality standards. You will be responsible for the final sonic preparation of tracks for various distribution formats, including digital streaming, vinyl, and CD.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality audio mastering for a wide array of musical genres, ensuring optimal playback across all platforms and formats.
- Collaborate closely with artists, producers, and mixing engineers to understand their creative intent and deliver masters that enhance their vision.
- Utilize advanced audio processing techniques, including EQ, compression, limiting, stereo imaging, and restoration.
- Prepare master files for various distribution formats (digital, vinyl, CD, high-resolution audio) with precise technical specifications.
- Maintain and calibrate mastering studio equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
- Conduct quality control checks on all masters to identify and rectify any technical imperfections or sonic inconsistencies.
- Manage project timelines efficiently, ensuring timely delivery of mastered audio.
- Stay current with emerging mastering technologies, software, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Mastering Engineer in the music industry.
- Expert proficiency with industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or similar.
- In-depth knowledge and practical application of mastering software (e.g., Izotope Ozone, FabFilter Pro-MB, Weiss EQ1).
- Exceptional critical listening abilities with a keen ear for detail, balance, and dynamics.
- Strong understanding of acoustics, psychoacoustics, and signal flow.
- Proficiency with analog and digital mastering hardware (e.g., EQs, compressors, converters).
- Solid understanding of audio file formats, codecs, and loudness standards (LUFS).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
- Experience with surround sound mastering and immersive audio formats (e.g., Dolby Atmos).
- Demonstrable portfolio of high-profile mastering projects.
- Certifications from recognized audio engineering programs or institutions.
- Experience working with diverse genres, from pop and rock to electronic and classical.
