Job Description

Are you passionate about animals and eager to start a rewarding career in veterinary medicine? Coastal Companion Animal Hospital, a trusted NVA network clinic in Charleston, SC, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Vet Clinic Helper. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with little to no prior experience, as comprehensive animal handling training will be provided. You will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinary team, ensuring our clinic runs smoothly, and contributing to a positive and stress-free experience for our furry patients and their owners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with safe and humane animal restraint and handling during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of all clinic facilities, including exam rooms, kennels, treatment areas, and common spaces.
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
  • Monitor hospitalized animals, observing for any changes in behavior, appetite, or condition, and promptly reporting findings to senior staff.
  • Feed, water, and walk animals under our care, ensuring their comfort, hygiene, and overall well-being.
  • Assist with client communication, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and greeting clients upon arrival.
  • Stock and organize medical supplies, food, and other inventory in treatment areas and storage rooms.
  • Learn and adhere to all clinic safety protocols, animal handling best practices, and infectious disease control measures.
  • Provide compassionate support to pet owners during stressful situations, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.

Required Skills

  • Genuine love for animals and a strong desire to work with them in a professional setting.
  • Ability to follow instructions carefully and a strong willingness to learn new skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Reliable, punctual, and possesses a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs independently and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer experience at an animal shelter, rescue organization, or veterinary clinic.
  • Basic understanding of animal behavior and body language.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (for humans) demonstrating preparedness in emergency situations.
