Job Description
UPS is seeking a meticulous and passionate Digital Archivist with a strong focus on historical data to join our remote team. This unique role involves the preservation, organization, and accessibility of UPS’s rich historical digital assets. You will be instrumental in safeguarding our legacy, ensuring that critical historical information is cataloged, protected, and made available for research, corporate memory, and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have expertise in digital preservation methodologies, metadata standards, and the unique challenges associated with long-term digital asset management. This position is 100% remote, allowing you to contribute to our global mission from anywhere.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies for the long-term preservation and accessibility of UPS's digital historical records.
- Catalog, classify, and index digital assets using established archival and metadata standards (e.g., DACS, Dublin Core).
- Manage and maintain digital repositories, ensuring data integrity, security, and redundancy.
- Migrate legacy digital formats to current and future-proof standards.
- Conduct research and provide access to historical digital materials for internal stakeholders, responding to information requests.
- Collaborate with IT, legal, and other departments to ensure compliance with data governance policies and legal requirements.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the acquisition, processing, and management of new digital content.
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in digital preservation and archival science.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Science, or a related field with a concentration in digital preservation.
- 3+ years of professional experience in digital archives or digital asset management, with a proven focus on historical data.
- Strong understanding of digital preservation principles, standards, and best practices.
- Proficiency with metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, EAD) and content management systems.
- Experience with digital forensics tools and techniques for data recovery and authentication.
- Familiarity with various digital file formats and conversion processes.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with large-scale corporate or institutional archives.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for data processing and automation.
- Certification in Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) or similar.
- Familiarity with legal and ethical considerations related to digital information and privacy.
- Experience with cloud-based archival solutions.
