Job Description

Join our vital Environmental Services team as a Sewer Grate Debris Clearer and play a crucial role in safeguarding our city’s infrastructure. This hands-on position involves the regular inspection and clearing of sewer grates, drains, and gullies across Kingston upon Hull to prevent blockages, reduce flood risks, and maintain the free flow of stormwater and wastewater. You will be responsible for identifying debris build-up, safely removing obstructions, and reporting any significant infrastructure damage or issues to ensure the continued efficient operation of our drainage systems. This role is essential for public health and safety, requiring a proactive approach and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness within our urban environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly inspect and monitor sewer grates, drains, and gullies throughout the city.
  • Safely remove debris, leaves, litter, and other obstructions from grates and drainage systems using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Report any significant blockages, damaged infrastructure, or potential hazards promptly to supervisors.
  • Operate and maintain specialized cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures, especially when working in public areas and near traffic.
  • Assist in emergency response situations related to flooding or drainage issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, locations serviced, and issues identified.
