Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in Canary Wharf. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the structural design of complex and innovative projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, and mentoring junior engineers. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from high-rise buildings and infrastructure to specialist structures, contributing to iconic developments that shape our urban landscapes. You will be instrumental in delivering high-quality, sustainable, and buildable structural solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and analysis of various projects from concept to completion.
  • Prepare detailed structural calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Oversee and review the work of junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance and mentorship.
  • Collaborate effectively with architects, other engineering disciplines, clients, and contractors to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress, assess existing structures, and resolve site queries.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to bid proposals, project planning, and project management activities.
  • Actively participate in internal and external project meetings, representing Arup with professionalism.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Chartered Engineer status (MIStructE or MICE).
  • Minimum of 8 years total experience in structural design, with significant experience in a senior capacity.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, Robot, Tekla Structural Designer).
  • Strong understanding of concrete, steel, timber, and masonry design principles.
  • Excellent knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes, and UK building regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead projects, manage design teams, and deliver results under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to innovation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with parametric design tools (e.g., Grasshopper, Dynamo).
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) software (e.g., Revit Structure).
  • Experience in sustainable design principles and low-carbon solutions.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2).
  • Experience across a range of sectors including commercial, residential, and infrastructure.
