Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Senior Music Companion to join our team, focusing on enhancing the therapeutic environment for our patients through the power of music. In this rewarding role, you will utilize your musical talents to engage patients in various healthcare settings, fostering comfort, reducing anxiety, and promoting emotional well-being. This position requires a deep understanding of music’s therapeutic applications, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care. You will work closely with medical staff and families to integrate music into care plans, contributing significantly to our holistic approach to health.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver individualized and group music sessions tailored to patient needs and preferences.
- Utilize a variety of musical instruments and vocal techniques to engage patients of all ages and conditions.
- Assess patient responses to music interventions and adapt approaches accordingly.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, therapists) to integrate music into comprehensive care plans.
- Maintain accurate records of patient interactions and progress.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on the benefits of music in healing and well-being.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of music programs within the facility.
- Ensure a safe and comforting environment during all music sessions.
- Mentor junior music companions and share best practices.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument (e.g., guitar, piano, voice)
- Strong understanding of music theory and its therapeutic applications
- Excellent active listening and empathetic communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others
- Experience working in a healthcare or therapeutic setting
- Ability to adapt musical styles and approaches to diverse patient populations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field
- Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC)
- Experience with diverse patient populations, including geriatric, pediatric, and palliative care
- Familiarity with electronic music equipment and software
- Additional language proficiency
