Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Maternity Ward Porter to join our busy and vital team. This rewarding part-time role involves providing essential support to patients and staff within our Maternity Ward, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of daily operations. You will be responsible for transporting patients, equipment, and specimens, as well as assisting with general ward duties. This position is crucial to maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for new mothers and their babies. Key Responsibilities

  • Transporting patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and other areas within the hospital, particularly the Maternity Ward.
  • Moving equipment, medical supplies, and specimens as required, adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Assisting nursing staff with patient transfers and general ward duties, ensuring patient dignity and comfort.
  • Delivering and collecting mail, laboratory samples, and pharmaceutical items.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in designated areas, including equipment storage rooms.
  • Responding promptly and courteously to requests from medical and nursing staff.
  • Adhering to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and safeguarding protocols.
  • Providing compassionate and respectful support to patients and their families.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • A caring and empathetic approach, with a strong commitment to patient dignity and comfort.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or portering role.
  • Knowledge of hospital environments and procedures.
  • A valid First Aid certificate.
