Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Palliative Care Assistant to join our compassionate team. This vital role involves providing hands-on care and emotional support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families, ensuring comfort, dignity, and a high quality of life. You will work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to implement care plans, assist with daily living activities, and create a supportive environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to patients, including assisting with hygiene, mobility, and feeding, whilst maintaining dignity and respect.
  • Monitor and report changes in patients' conditions, mood, or needs to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to patients and their families, creating a comforting atmosphere.
  • Assist with light domestic duties and ensure a clean, tidy, and safe environment for patients.
  • Accurately document care activities and observations in line with Trust policies.
  • Support patients in maintaining their independence and engaging in activities where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic palliative care.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in a care setting, preferably within palliative, elderly, or acute care.
  • Exceptional empathy, patience, and compassion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Basic IT skills for documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • Previous experience specifically in palliative care.
  • Knowledge of end-of-life care principles and practices.
