Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Coordinator with a strong focus on Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) to join our team, supporting refinery operations. While the role is based in New Port Richey, Florida, it will involve close coordination with our larger operational network, including key refinery hubs. The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with all WHS regulations, and implementing best practices to prevent incidents and promote a healthy work environment. This is an ongoing position vital to our commitment to safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor WHS programs and procedures in alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments within the operational facilities, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing preventative measures.
  • Deliver comprehensive safety training sessions to employees, contractors, and visitors on topics such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, emergency response, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Advise management on WHS performance, trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary permits and licenses are up-to-date.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through active engagement, communication, and recognition programs.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Safety Coordinator or similar role in an industrial or refinery setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant WHS standards.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), OHST (Occupational Health and Safety Technologist), or equivalent.
  • Experience with process safety management (PSM) principles.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations pertinent to refinery operations.
  • First Aid/CPR certified.
