Job Description

We are seeking a visionary Paleontology Exhibit Designer to join our dynamic exhibits team. This role is crucial in bringing the wonders of ancient life to visitors through immersive and educational displays. The Paleontology Exhibit Designer will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and executing engaging exhibit experiences that showcase our world-class fossil collections and cutting-edge paleontological research. This is a creative position requiring a strong understanding of scientific content, design principles, and visitor engagement strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and interpret paleontological content in collaboration with scientists and educators.
  • Develop innovative exhibit concepts, narratives, and visitor experiences.
  • Produce design documents including layouts, renderings, material specifications, and graphic treatments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (scientists, educators, fabricators, graphic designers) and external vendors to ensure design integrity and project success.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and budgets.
  • Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards and provide engaging experiences for diverse audiences.
  • Stay abreast of current trends in museum exhibition design, technology, and paleontological discoveries.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in exhibit design, museum design, or a related field.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creative design solutions and technical proficiency.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, CAD).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific information into accessible and engaging exhibit experiences.
  • Knowledge of exhibit fabrication techniques and materials.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Exhibition Design, Industrial Design, Museum Studies, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Direct experience designing paleontological or natural history exhibits.
  • Understanding of informal learning principles and visitor studies.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and rendering software.
  • Background in paleontology or a related science.
