Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Orthopedic Surgeon to join our esteemed surgical team at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to a thriving department, providing expert care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of orthopedic issues, performing complex surgical procedures, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. You will play a crucial role in enhancing our surgical services, participating in clinical governance, and supporting the training and development of junior medical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex orthopedic surgical procedures, including joint replacements, trauma surgery, and spinal interventions.
- Diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions through clinical examination, imaging, and other diagnostic tools.
- Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care, ensuring comprehensive follow-up and rehabilitation plans.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide emergency orthopedic care.
- Collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, nurses, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, clinical audits, and service improvement initiatives.
- Engage in continuous professional development and medical education.
- Mentor and supervise junior medical staff, including registrars and fellows.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in accordance with Trust policies.
- Adhere to all national and local clinical guidelines and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
- FRCS (Orth) or equivalent specialist qualification.
- Entry on the Specialist Register or eligible for entry within six months of interview.
- Extensive experience in a wide range of orthopedic surgical techniques.
- Proven track record of independent surgical practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence.
- Evidence of participation in audit and quality improvement activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Sub-specialty interest and fellowship training in areas such as trauma, joint reconstruction, spinal surgery, or sports medicine.
- Experience in teaching and supervising medical students or junior doctors.
- Participation in research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Leadership experience within an orthopedic department.
