Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated MWD/LWD Technician with a strong focus on electronics and data management to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the assembly, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Measurement While Drilling (MWD) and Logging While Drilling (LWD) tools and systems. Your expertise will ensure the reliability and accuracy of downhole data acquisition, directly supporting our drilling operations and contributing to successful well delivery. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of electronic components, data acquisition principles, and a commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, disassemble, test, and calibrate MWD/LWD tools and associated surface equipment according to established procedures.
- Perform diagnostic troubleshooting and repair of electronic components, circuitry, and data acquisition systems for MWD/LWD tools.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections on all MWD/LWD equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Manage and process downhole data, including quality control, data interpretation, and preparation for client reports.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of tools, spare parts, and consumables.
- Collaborate with field engineers and other team members to ensure seamless integration of MWD/LWD operations with overall drilling plans.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for tool performance and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical support and training to junior technicians or field personnel as needed.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of electronic principles, digital and analog circuits, and sensor technology.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing complex electronic equipment using schematics and diagnostic tools.
- Experience with data acquisition systems and telemetry principles relevant to downhole drilling.
- Ability to work with precision tools and test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators).
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and specialized diagnostic software.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous experience as an MWD/LWD Technician or similar role in the oil and gas industry.
- Familiarity with various MWD/LWD tool types and their operational characteristics.
- Experience with specific Halliburton MWD/LWD systems.
- Knowledge of drilling operations and wellbore navigation.
