Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and professional Medical Center Porter to join our team at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our clinic, providing essential support to our clinical staff and ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients. This position requires a proactive, compassionate individual who is committed to maintaining high standards of service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, often on beds, wheelchairs, or trolleys, between departments, wards, and treatment areas, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
  • Move medical equipment, furniture, specimens, and documentation throughout the hospital as required.
  • Assist with the timely delivery and collection of pharmaceuticals, clean and soiled linen, and waste.
  • Provide support to nursing and medical staff with patient handling and general ward duties.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in communal areas, corridors, and equipment storage rooms.
  • Respond promptly to requests and emergencies, following established protocols.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and hospital procedures.
  • Act as a professional and courteous point of contact for patients and visitors, providing directions and assistance as needed.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Strong physical fitness and stamina to handle demanding tasks, including lifting and prolonged standing/walking.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety guidelines.
  • A proactive and positive attitude with a commitment to patient care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a porter role, ideally within a healthcare or customer service environment.
  • Basic First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of patient handling techniques.
  • Familiarity with hospital environments and medical terminology.
