Job Description
Reuters is seeking a meticulous and highly accurate Media Interview Typist with a strong focus on journalism to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for transcribing interviews, speeches, press conferences, and other audio content critical to our news gathering and reporting processes. The ideal candidate will possess excellent listening skills, a keen eye for detail, and an understanding of journalistic terminology and context to ensure precise and contextual transcriptions. This is a 100% remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to a leading global news organization from anywhere within the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately transcribe audio and video files of interviews, press conferences, and other journalistic content.
- Ensure transcriptions are grammatically correct, properly punctuated, and contextually sound.
- Meet strict deadlines for transcription delivery, often under fast-paced news cycles.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
- Utilize transcription software and tools efficiently to enhance productivity and accuracy.
- Collaborate with editorial teams as needed to clarify unclear audio segments or specific terminology.
- Maintain a high level of quality control and review own work for errors before submission.
Required Skills
- Exceptional typing speed (minimum 70 WPM) and accuracy.
- Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Strong listening skills with the ability to discern speech in varying audio qualities.
- Proficiency in using transcription software and word processing tools.
- Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and manage time effectively.
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Familiarity with journalistic practices and terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in transcription, particularly in media or journalism.
- Background or education in journalism, communications, or a related field.
- Experience with specialized transcription software (e.g., Express Scribe, Trint).
- Ability to identify and correctly format speaker attribution in multi-person interviews.
