Job Description
We are seeking diligent and detail-oriented Fresh Produce Sorters to join our team at the Joliet distribution center. In this vital role, you will be responsible for meticulously inspecting, sorting, and preparing fresh fruits and vegetables for distribution to our grocery stores. This position requires individuals who are comfortable with early morning shifts, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality and food safety. We offer paid breaks and a supportive team atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming fresh produce for quality, ripeness, and damage according to company standards.
- Sort fruits and vegetables by grade, size, and type, removing any substandard items.
- Pack sorted produce into appropriate containers, ensuring proper handling to prevent bruising or spoilage.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Operate basic warehouse equipment safely, as needed (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks).
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and meet daily production goals.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or quality issues to supervisors promptly.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, temperature-controlled environment.
- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality for early morning shifts.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse, food production, or agricultural setting.
- Familiarity with various types of fresh produce.
- Experience operating pallet jacks or other manual warehouse equipment.
