Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Master Mariner to join our dynamic team. The Master Mariner will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our vessels, ensuring compliance with all international and national maritime regulations. This pivotal role requires exceptional leadership, navigation expertise, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence. The successful candidate will command the vessel, manage the crew, and coordinate complex marine operations in various port environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Command and control the vessel, ensuring safe navigation and operation at all times.
- Manage and lead the vessel's crew, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Ensure strict compliance with international maritime laws, flag state regulations, and company policies.
- Oversee the maintenance and readiness of the vessel, including safety equipment and machinery.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with port authorities, pilots, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations.
- Manage cargo operations, including loading, discharge, and stability calculations.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, implementing established procedures to safeguard life, property, and the environment.
- Maintain accurate vessel records, logs, and reports.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior officers and crew members.
Required Skills
- Master's Certificate of Competency (Unlimited)
- Extensive experience as Master on various vessel types, preferably tugs or specialized marine craft.
- Thorough knowledge of ISM Code, ISPS Code, STCW conventions, and other relevant maritime regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in navigation, vessel handling, and marine operations.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and crisis management skills.
- Valid GMDSS General Operator's Certificate.
- Medical fitness certificate compliant with STCW requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific vessel management systems.
- Additional certifications in advanced firefighting, medical first aid, or hazardous materials handling.
- Prior experience working in the UK port environment.
- Leadership and management training.
