Job Description
Join Mitie as a Maintenance Porter with basic handyman skills, where you’ll be a crucial part of our facilities team in Sunderland. We provide all necessary tools, empowering you to carry out a range of minor maintenance tasks and ensure the smooth operation of our client’s premises. This role is ideal for someone practical, reliable, and keen to contribute to a well-maintained environment. You will support the site management team by performing routine checks, responding to immediate issues, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety standards of the building.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily visual inspections of the property to identify and report maintenance issues.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical fixes (e.g., changing lightbulbs), carpentry (e.g., fixing doors), and painting touch-ups.
- Assist with general porterage duties, including moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries.
- Ensure all tools and equipment provided are maintained in good working order and stored securely.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and management.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in communal areas and plant rooms.
- Support health and safety compliance by addressing immediate hazards and reporting serious issues.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of completed tasks and issues reported.
Required Skills
- Proven basic handyman skills across various trades (e.g., minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to work.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety regulations in a workplace setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar maintenance or porterage role.
- Relevant vocational training or certifications (e.g., in basic electrical or plumbing).
- A valid UK driving license (desirable, but not essential for this specific location).
- First Aid certification.
