Job Description
As a Loss Prevention Officer at Tesco in Peterborough, you will play a crucial role in protecting company assets, ensuring the safety of our colleagues and customers, and minimising stock loss. You will be responsible for identifying and investigating instances of theft, fraud, and other forms of loss, as well as implementing preventative measures. This is a dynamic role that requires vigilance, excellent observation skills, and the ability to act calmly and professionally under pressure. You will work closely with store management and local law enforcement to maintain a secure and safe shopping environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor store premises for suspicious activities using CCTV and direct observation.
- Identify and apprehend individuals engaged in theft or other illicit activities in accordance with company policy and legal guidelines.
- Conduct thorough investigations into reported incidents of loss, including collecting evidence, statements, and maintaining detailed reports.
- Implement and enforce loss prevention policies and procedures to reduce shrinkage and protect company assets.
- Collaborate with store management to identify areas of risk and develop strategies for improvement.
- Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a professional and vigilant presence.
- Participate in training and awareness programs for store colleagues on loss prevention best practices.
- Assist in audits and inventories to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in security, loss prevention, or a related field (e.g., retail security, policing).
- Strong observational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to operate CCTV and other security equipment effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of de-escalating difficult situations.
- Understanding of relevant legal frameworks pertaining to theft, apprehension, and evidence collection.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic computer proficiency for report writing and data entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- SIA (Security Industry Authority) Licence.
- First Aid certification.
- Previous experience in a large retail environment.
- Knowledge of internal fraud investigation techniques.
