Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and reliable Linen Assistant to join our Hospital Logistics team in Didcot. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the efficient management and distribution of linen throughout our hospital facilities. This involves ensuring a continuous supply of clean linen for patients and staff, as well as the timely collection and preparation of soiled linen for external laundering. Your attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and organisation will be vital to supporting our clinical services and ensuring a safe, comfortable environment for everyone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect soiled linen from wards, departments, and clinical areas following strict infection control protocols.
  • Distribute clean, fresh linen to designated storage areas on wards and departments.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels of linen, reporting shortages or excesses as required.
  • Organise and transport linen cages and trolleys safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all linen storage areas are kept clean, tidy, and organised.
  • Adhere strictly to all Trust policies and procedures, especially those related to infection prevention and control.
  • Liaise effectively with ward staff and other departments regarding linen requirements and schedules.
  • Assist with periodic stocktakes and inventory management of linen.
  • Operate any designated manual or automated equipment safely and effectively.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of hygiene and infection control.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform duties involving lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy cages/trolleys.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare, or similar demanding environment.
  • Experience in a linen or laundry services role.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a clinical setting.
