Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally qualified and experienced Laboratory Director with a strong healthcare and clinical focus to lead our state-of-the-art laboratory services. This high-impact role demands a visionary leader capable of overseeing all operational, administrative, and strategic aspects of our clinical laboratory. The successful candidate will ensure the highest standards of quality, regulatory compliance, and patient safety, while driving innovation and efficiency. This position requires a leader who can inspire a team, optimize workflows, and contribute significantly to the overall mission of providing exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all clinical laboratory services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Manage and develop laboratory staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Ensure continuous compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission) and accreditation standards.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality control and quality assurance programs to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Manage the laboratory budget, including resource allocation, cost control, and procurement of new equipment and supplies.
- Evaluate and implement new testing methodologies, technologies, and instrumentation to enhance diagnostic capabilities and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective communication and utilization of laboratory services.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, data integrity, and ethical practices within the laboratory.
- Participate in interdepartmental committees and leadership meetings to contribute to overall organizational strategy and decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and participate in research projects relevant to laboratory medicine.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field from an accredited institution.
- Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) from ASCP or equivalent.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory setting, with at least 3 years at a Director level.
- Demonstrated expertise in CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management and resource allocation.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of laboratory professionals.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and laboratory automation.
- Experience with quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with board certification in Clinical Pathology.
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Healthcare Administration (MHA).
- Experience in a multi-site healthcare system.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Record of peer-reviewed publications or presentations in laboratory medicine.
