Job Description

Are you looking for a rewarding entry-level opportunity in healthcare? Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate individuals to join our team as Hospital Porters. This full-time position comes with comprehensive training, so no prior experience is required! As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our hospital, directly impacting patient care and comfort. You will be responsible for the safe and timely transport of patients, equipment, and medical records throughout the facility. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, often in wheelchairs or on beds, between wards, departments, and appointment areas.
  • Move medical equipment, supplies, specimens, and patient belongings as required.
  • Deliver and collect mail, records, and other documents throughout the hospital.
  • Assist with patient transfers and positioning under the guidance of nursing staff.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
  • Respond to urgent requests and emergencies promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate logs of transport activities and patient movements.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Familiarity with a hospital environment (voluntary or otherwise).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
