Job Description

As an HGV Instructor (Trainee) at XPO Logistics, you will embark on a rewarding career path designed to transform you into a skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle driving instructor. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals who hold an HGV license, possess excellent communication skills, and are eager to share their knowledge and passion for safe and efficient driving. You will receive comprehensive training and support to achieve the necessary qualifications to instruct and assess new and experienced HGV drivers, playing a crucial role in maintaining high safety and operational standards within our fleet. This is an on-site role based at our state-of-the-art training facility in Dyce, Aberdeen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undergo comprehensive training to achieve full HGV instructor qualifications.
  • Shadow experienced instructors during practical driving lessons and classroom sessions.
  • Assist in the preparation of training materials and vehicles.
  • Learn and apply the latest HGV driving regulations and best practices.
  • Develop effective instructional techniques for diverse learning styles.
  • Participate in driver assessments and feedback sessions.
  • Maintain accurate training records and documentation.
  • Promote a culture of safety and professionalism at all times.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of training programmes.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK Category C or CE HGV driving licence with minimal endorsements.
  • A strong commitment to road safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new teaching methods.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and developing others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience driving HGVs professionally.
  • Any prior experience in a training or mentoring role.
  • A clean driving record.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles.
