Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Coatings Chemist to join our dynamic R&D team in Seattle. This role is crucial for the development and improvement of high-performance paints and resins for a variety of applications. The successful candidate will lead projects from conception through to commercialization, focusing on formulation, testing, and optimization of coating systems. This is an exciting opportunity for a chemist passionate about material science and looking to make a tangible impact in the paint and resin industry. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test new coating formulations and raw materials, including solvent-borne, water-borne, and powder coatings.
- Optimize existing paint and resin formulations for performance, cost, and environmental compliance.
- Conduct comprehensive analytical testing and characterization of coatings, interpreting results to guide development.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality control, and sales teams to ensure successful product scale-up and market introduction.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to timelines and budget constraints.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and product specifications.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in coatings formulation and development (paints, resins, polymers).
- Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, surface science, and pigment dispersion.
- Proficiency with analytical techniques such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, rheology, and microscopy.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with color matching and color theory.
- Familiarity with various application methods for coatings (spray, brush, roll, etc.).
- Knowledge of industrial coating standards and specifications (e.g., ASTM, ISO).
