Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to vital patient care services on a flexible basis, allowing you to work shifts that suit your availability. As a Casual Hospital Porter, you will be an essential part of our hospital environment, ensuring the smooth and safe movement of patients, equipment, and vital supplies. Your reliability, discretion, and empathy will directly impact the patient experience and support our clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients, including those with varying mobility needs, via wheelchairs, trolleys, or beds between wards and departments.
- Move medical equipment, samples, notes, and supplies efficiently and securely around the hospital premises.
- Assist with the safe and respectful handling of deceased patients.
- Respond promptly and professionally to requests from medical, nursing, and administrative staff.
- Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, ensuring all equipment is properly stored and ready for use.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines, infection control protocols, and hospital policies.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused approach.
- A compassionate, empathetic, and professional demeanour towards patients and their families.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment.
- Basic knowledge of hospital layouts and departmental functions.
- Current manual handling training certification.
