Job Description
Join the harvest season as a Somerset Cider Apple Picker! Agri-Recruit Solutions NI is seeking motivated individuals for temporary roles picking cider apples in the picturesque West Country, primarily in Somerset. This is an exciting opportunity to work outdoors, contribute to the renowned British cider industry, and gain valuable agricultural experience. The role involves physically demanding work, ensuring high-quality apple collection, and working efficiently as part of a team during the critical harvest period. Successful candidates will be instrumental in bringing in the harvest that fuels the UK’s beloved cider production.
Key Responsibilities
- Carefully hand-pick cider apples from orchards, following specific quality and quantity guidelines.
- Operate picking equipment and machinery safely and efficiently, if required (training provided).
- Sort and pack harvested apples into designated crates and containers.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area within the orchard.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and farm policies.
- Work collaboratively with the farm team to meet daily picking targets.
- Report any issues with crops or equipment to supervisors promptly.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including prolonged standing, bending, lifting (up to 20kg), and carrying.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (rain or shine).
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail to ensure quality apple picking and sorting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in agricultural work, fruit picking, or similar outdoor seasonal roles is a plus, but not essential.
- A valid UK driving license and access to personal transport is beneficial, due to the rural locations of some orchards.
- Understanding of basic fruit handling and sorting techniques.
