Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Care Home General Porter to join our friendly team in Nottingham. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth daily operations of our care home, directly contributing to a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our elderly residents. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, from maintaining the premises to assisting with resident activities and general logistical support. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, proactive, and have a flexible approach to their work, understanding the unique needs of an elderly care setting. This position offers a flexible roster, accommodating various schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance tasks and minor repairs around the care home.
- Assist with the safe transportation of residents within the premises, using wheelchairs or other mobility aids.
- Ensure all common areas, resident rooms, and facilities are clean, tidy, and well-maintained.
- Handle deliveries, store supplies efficiently, and manage inventory of consumables.
- Provide support for activities and events, including setting up and clearing down communal spaces.
- Respond promptly to requests from staff and residents, demonstrating a helpful and courteous attitude.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including fire safety and infection control policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a practical, hands-on role (e.g., maintenance, porterage, facilities).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management and organisational abilities.
- A compassionate and patient approach, particularly with elderly individuals.
- Physical fitness to perform duties including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a care home, hospital, or similar healthcare environment.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures and manual handling techniques.
- First Aid qualification.
