Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Cardiac Nurse to join our dedicated cardiology team. This role is crucial in providing specialized nursing care to patients with various cardiac conditions, including acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, arrhythmias, and post-operative cardiac care. The successful candidate will work within a fast-paced environment, utilizing their clinical expertise to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. You will be instrumental in educating patients and their families, ensuring they understand their condition and treatment plans, and supporting them through their recovery journey. This position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute to life-saving care within a supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care to patients with cardiac conditions, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and other physiological parameters, responding effectively to changes.
- Administer medications safely and accurately, including specialized cardiac drugs.
- Assist with and prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g., ECGs, echocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations).
- Educate patients and their families on cardiac health, medication management, lifestyle modifications, and rehabilitation.
- Collaborate effectively with cardiologists, physicians, other nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in compliance with Trust policies.
- Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Act as a mentor and resource for junior staff and students.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and staff, adhering to infection control policies.
Required Skills
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, with at least 2 years in a cardiac specific environment (e.g., CCU, Cardiology Ward)
- Demonstrable knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and common cardiac conditions.
- Proficiency in ECG interpretation and rhythm analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage challenging situations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Post-registration qualification in cardiology or critical care.
- Experience with advanced cardiac monitoring equipment.
- Experience in patient education and counseling regarding cardiac health.
