Job Description

Are you passionate about film and television, with a keen eye for detail and a desire to learn the technical craft of camera operation? ITV Plc is offering an exciting trainee opportunity for an aspiring Camera Operator. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with little to no prior professional experience, providing comprehensive, hands-on training across various aspects of media production. You will work alongside experienced professionals, learning about camera equipment, lighting, shot composition, and on-set etiquette for a variety of productions, from studio shows to live events and documentaries. This role is a fantastic stepping stone into the vibrant world of media production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior camera operators with setup and breakdown of camera equipment, including cameras, tripods, lenses, and accessories.
  • Learn and practice basic camera operation techniques, including framing, focusing, and exposure control under supervision.
  • Support the lighting and grip departments as needed, understanding their contribution to overall visual quality.
  • Help maintain and organize production equipment, ensuring it is clean, charged, and in good working order.
  • Actively participate in on-set training sessions and workshops to develop technical skills and knowledge.
  • Follow all health and safety guidelines and on-set protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with cable management and ensuring a tidy and safe working area.
  • Communicate effectively with the production team, director, and other crew members.
  • Demonstrate a proactive and positive attitude, showing eagerness to learn and contribute to team success.

  • Strong interest and passion for film, television, or media production.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop practical skills in camera operation and related fields.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Good manual dexterity and physical stamina for handling equipment.

  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced and dynamic production environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of camera equipment or photographic principles (e.g., from personal projects or amateur filmmaking).
  • Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve) is a plus.
  • Relevant coursework or certifications in media production, film studies, or photography.
  • A valid UK driving license is advantageous.
