Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Audio Systems Designer with a strong focus on AV integration to join our dynamic team in Overland Park, KS. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive design, documentation, and technical specification of complex audio systems for a variety of commercial and institutional clients. This role requires an expert understanding of audio principles, signal flow, digital signal processors (DSPs), amplifiers, loudspeakers, and integration with broader AV and IT networks. You will collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and installation teams to deliver cutting-edge audio solutions that meet demanding performance and functional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and engineering of audio systems for complex AV integration projects, including sound reinforcement, conferencing, and broadcast applications.
- Develop detailed system schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment lists using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio).
- Perform acoustic modeling and simulations to predict system performance and optimize speaker placement.
- Specify appropriate audio equipment, including DSPs, amplifiers, microphones, mixers, and loudspeakers, from various manufacturers.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, consultants, and internal teams to gather requirements and present design concepts.
- Create comprehensive technical documentation, including functional specifications, control narratives, and operational guides.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project managers and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Stay current with emerging audio technologies, industry best practices, and relevant certifications.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in audio system design within the AV integration industry.
- Proven expertise in designing complex audio systems for commercial environments.
- Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Visio) for creating technical drawings.
- In-depth knowledge of audio principles, acoustics, signal processing, and networking.
- Experience with major DSP platforms (e.g., QSC Q-SYS, Biamp Tesira).
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices (e.g., AES, InfoComm/AVIXA).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- AVIXA CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design) certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with acoustic modeling software (e.g., EASE, Soundvision).
- Knowledge of IT networking principles as they apply to AV systems (AV over IP).
- Experience with control system programming (e.g., Crestron, Extron, AMX) is a plus.
