Job Description
Are you a motivated 15-year-old looking for an exciting and impactful summer job? New Orleans City Park is seeking enthusiastic and responsible teens to join our aquatic team as Lifeguard Trainees. This seasonal role offers comprehensive training to develop your lifeguarding skills, ensure the safety of our park visitors at designated aquatic areas, and provide you with valuable work experience in a supportive environment. You’ll gain certifications, learn critical safety protocols, and become an essential part of our summer operations, making a real difference in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all required lifeguard training and certification programs.
- Learn and apply water rescue techniques, first aid, and CPR protocols.
- Observe swimmers and patrons in designated aquatic areas to ensure safety rules are followed.
- Assist certified lifeguards in maintaining a safe and clean pool environment.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies under supervision.
- Communicate clearly and politely with park visitors and staff.
- Understand and enforce park and aquatic facility rules.
Required Skills
- Must be 15 years of age by the start of employment.
- Ability to swim 300 yards continuously.
- Ability to retrieve a 10-lb brick from the bottom of 7-10 feet of water.
- Comfortable working in and around water for extended periods.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Responsible and attentive with a willingness to learn.
- Ability to work a flexible summer schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with competitive swimming or water sports.
- Basic knowledge of first aid or CPR (training will be provided if not certified).
- Enthusiasm for outdoor work and public service.
