Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Theatre Nurse to join our dynamic perioperative team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work across various surgical specialities, providing high-quality, patient-centred care in a fast-paced environment. As a Theatre Nurse, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients throughout their surgical journey, from admission to recovery. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in the perioperative setting.
  • Prepare the operating theatre and sterile instruments, ensuring all equipment is in working order.
  • Assist surgeons and anaesthetists during surgical procedures, maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and condition throughout surgery, responding to changes appropriately.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed.
  • Provide clear and concise handover of patient information to recovery staff.
  • Document all aspects of patient care accurately and contemporaneously.
  • Participate in emergency procedures and resuscitation efforts as required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to infection control policies.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of services and improvement of patient outcomes.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience in a surgical or theatre setting.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of perioperative care, including scrubbing, circulating, and recovery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-registration qualification in Perioperative Practice or equivalent.
  • Experience with a variety of surgical specialities (e.g., orthopaedics, general surgery, urology).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in theatre nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
