Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Public Sector Shipping & Receiving Clerk to join our team. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to start a career in public service logistics. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to the movement, storage, and inventory of goods and materials for various city departments. This role requires a strong work ethic, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment. No prior experience is required, as comprehensive training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and record incoming shipments of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepare items for outgoing shipments, including packaging, labeling, and coordinating with carriers.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through manual and computerized systems.
  • Organize and store items in designated warehouse locations.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with discrepancy resolution.
  • Operate basic material handling equipment such as hand trucks and pallet jacks (training provided).
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the shipping and receiving area.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and city policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support department operations.

Required Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics environment (even non-professional).
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
