Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Forensic Analyst with a strong focus on state crime lab operations to join our Tampa Bay Regional Operations Center in New Port Richey. This pivotal role involves leading complex forensic examinations, developing junior analysts, and contributing significantly to critical investigations. The successful candidate will apply advanced scientific principles and laboratory techniques to analyze physical evidence, interpret results, and provide expert testimony in court. This position offers an opportunity to significantly impact public safety and uphold justice through meticulous forensic science within a state-of-the-art facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct complex forensic examinations of various types of physical evidence (e.g., DNA, firearms, controlled substances, trace evidence).
  • Oversee case assignments, ensuring timely and accurate analysis in accordance with established protocols and quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior forensic analysts and laboratory staff.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of analyses, documentation, and reports prepared by other analysts.
  • Prepare detailed, comprehensive, and legally defensible forensic reports and conclusions.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in local, state, and federal courts regarding forensic findings and methodologies.
  • Participate in method development, validation, and implementation of new forensic techniques and instrumentation.
  • Maintain proficiency in multiple forensic disciplines and stay abreast of advancements in forensic science.
  • Collaborate effectively with law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and other criminal justice professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ANAB) and FDLE policies.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in at least two major forensic disciplines (e.g., DNA analysis, latent print examination, trace evidence, firearms and toolmarks, drug chemistry).
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining advanced forensic laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable for report writing and courtroom testimony.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong ethical conduct and commitment to scientific integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • Certification by a relevant professional board (e.g., American Board of Criminalistics, American Board of Forensic Toxicology).
  • Experience in a state or federal crime laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in method validation and quality system management.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
