Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Haul Specialist to join our dynamic team in Elk Grove, CA. This pivotal role involves the safe and efficient transport of oversize and overweight loads across various regions. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of heavy haul logistics, permit regulations, route planning, and safety protocols for specialized transportation. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our clients’ most challenging cargo reaches its destination securely and on schedule. We offer relocation assistance for qualified candidates ready to make Elk Grove their home base.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy haul equipment for the transportation of oversize and overweight loads.
- Plan and execute routes, considering road restrictions, bridge clearances, and permit requirements.
- Obtain and manage all necessary permits, escorts, and notifications for oversize load movements.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring all equipment is in excellent working order.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and other stakeholders regarding load status and any unforeseen issues.
- Secure loads properly using appropriate tie-downs, chains, and binders to prevent shifting or damage.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage reports, and all required documentation.
- Participate in ongoing training and safety programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Coordinate with support teams for maintenance, repairs, and other operational needs.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience in heavy haul and oversize load transportation.
- Proven expertise in securing diverse types of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state DOT regulations pertaining to oversize and overweight loads.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding route surveys and permits.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills in challenging situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with heavy haul operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with diverse heavy haul equipment (e.g., multi-axle trailers, lowboys, extendable trailers).
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management software.
- Certification in specialized cargo securement.
- Background in project cargo or industrial logistics.
